Compare the costs of renting an apartment verses buying an equivalent home
The New York Times’ “Is It Better to Rent or Buy?” calculator compares the cost of renting versus buying an equivalent sized home to determine in the long haul which is a more money-wise move. Give it your monthly rent, the projected price of buying a home (including down payment, mortgage rate, and property taxes), and it'll determine an estimated number of years it would take for buying to be better or worse than renting. As far as Rent or Buy Calculators go, it seems that this is one of the best out there. It takes in to account variables that others do not, and seems quite accurate. Good luck; and happy homing.

  1. Economy (especially in the local market)
  2. Other market variables, such as location
  3. What you are currently paying
