ALWAYS be sure to check your receipts for credit card information on them. Note: it is usually going to be a small mom-and-pop restaurant that will do this. The big chains almost never put your credit card information on them in full. They will usually put something like: XXXXXXXXX1234.

Here is an example of what you should cross out if you see:

Common Sense Usage Tips:
1.Observe your surroundings before using an ATM. If the machine is obstructed from view, visit another ATM
2.Take a friend with you - especially at night.
3.Have your card out and ready to use.
4.Guard the screen and keyboard so anyone waiting to use the ATM cannot see you enter your PIN or transaction amount.
5.Put your cash, card and receipt away immediately. Count your money later, and always keep your receipt.
6.When using an enclosed ATM that requires your card to open the door, avoid letting strangers follow you inside.
7.While many ATMs are available 24 hours a day, some may be open only during local business hours. To be on the safe side, plan your withdrawals ahead of time.
8.Check with your financial institution to determine the daily ATM limit that can be withdrawn.
